After insane idea to color. |
It was originally just a random drawing, and I liked it enough to scan it into the computer. But the scan turned out weird so I had to clean it up. And by then I thought it would look nice with some color. I started to add some color, thinking I could just put it on a different layer with a multiply filter. But, being the persistent fool I am, I decided just to paint over all the lines. That was too rough to post so I had to go back and add details and make it a little neater. This entire thing was dragged out over about three months but actually only took a few hours XD.
First time ever
Accompanying this is a sketchdump compiled from Spring Quarter 2013 and maybe a few things even before that. There's a lot of Jane and a lot of Fiana because I was trying to practice drawing them for the deviantART roleplays that I'm completely inactive in T_T. As you can see, I gave up on coloring everything for the sketchdump. So it's more or less a black and white blahpile. These two projects are the reason why I have not finished the outfit meme for Jane D:
Before anyone kills me about the weird proportioning on everything, this was a matter of months/ half a year ago! I've gotten (a little) better X.X
There's a sketch of Adelaide (yes! Adelaide from the Tale of the Darkest Star from the "Spring Ball Trouble" series!), 2 illustrations of Jane's essence/ tea-partner, Rue, 2 random scribbles of dramatized chibi-avatars, 4 doodles of Skarlett Maximus in her early development, and 6 drawings of Fiana, and 16 depictions of Jane.
Aside from that, it is the end of the summer and my room is again in need of cleaning. With it, I'm probably going to try another round of character pruning!
Hi!
ReplyDeleteSo this is Calliope, the winged being that came to existence after Reikokat22 mentioned that word.
Comparing with the original sketch, there’s not much that changed. I’m not sure why but the forehead seems really prominent. Possibly, the face maybe a bit low. Her right wing looks slightly off alignment, or that might just be me.
The image gives off this airbrush feel. It’s somewhat flowy. Also, I like the shading of the hilt and coloring of the blade. It seems to me that it’s glowing with a faint magical aura. I’m an outline fan, but I tend to forget that not all art includes defining lines. Overall, great job on Calliope~ I see improvement on based on proportions. Wooot for colored art!
Was there a particular reason for the color scheme? I see a lot of blue and a hint of magenta?
Congrats for posting the sketch dump~ It’s been a while since I’ve seen this. I really like Adelaide sketch and the profile image of Fiana. Plus, I was really surprised that Skarlett is included as well. :)
Hope to see more art soon! Haha, it’d be great to see an update of your writing too!

Hiya! Thank you for the comment!
DeleteYep, this is Calliope, named by Reikokat :) I'm glad there's not that much changed, haha I just wanted to color it XD. Ah yes, you've mentioned that recently in my drawings the forehead seems prominent. I think I agree that it's a combination of the face being positioned a little low and the hairline being a little high that gives it that look. I'll continue to smooth out the kinks with this!
Oh good catch with the wings! i didn't notice that XD
I'm glad you like the coloring! It did take me all summer haha XD I wasn't going for a magical aura on the blade, but I guess it's ok? :) And yay! Proportions improvement! That's always great :D There wasn't a particular reason for the color scheme, not really. In the world, the wing color depends on what color "flock" (tribe) they belong to/align with, while hair and eye would depend on something else I haven't determined. I just imagined that the outfit was blue, and everything pieced together after that.
Yay sketchdump! :D I'm glad you like them! I don't think there'll be more art for a while, but you can be sure I'll post it here when there is :). There'll be an ECA post tomorrow, please look forward to that!
Thank you for your feedback!
